Interdisciplinary Research Center Expansion

Lord, Aeck & Sargent helped the Georgia Health Sciences University (Formerly Medical College of Georgia) expand its current research space into a state-of-the-art facility able to accommodate the College’s prominent and varied research endeavors. Flexible laboratories and support spaces are designed to accommodate a wide variety of research needs ranging from Center for Biotechnology & Genomic Medicine and Physiology to Incubators and Technology Transfer. Office and administration space for principal investigators was included in the expansion.

Several specialty areas include tissue culture and bacterial culture suites, clean rooms, bioinformatics, dark rooms and radio isotope suites.

The ability to respond to the changing field of scientific research is key to the future success of the both the college and its facilities. Incubator space has been included in the facility in order to help stimulate the local economy, support the College’s growing research and technological needs and provide technology transfer opportunities. The space includes 18,370 gsf of labs, lab support spaces, common equipment rooms, conference spaces, offices and office support spaces.
