Capitol Education Center
Atlanta, GA
Designed as a visitor center to support the thousands of annual visitors to this key site, Georgia’s Capitol Education Center incorporates interactive educational exhibits, multimedia classrooms with distance learning and video conferencing capabilities, a broadcast newsroom and an auditorium, as well as a two-set sound stage and control room. The building includes 4,000 square feet of conference facilities comprising a commercial kitchen and bar area, restaurant and educational offices. Adjacent to the Georgia State Capitol, the 30,000-square-foot Center serves as a cultural education facility with advanced technologies, as well as a meeting and multimedia resource for its users.
Lord, Aeck & Sargent provided full architectural and interior design services from programming to post-occupancy. Designed and constructed on a fast-track schedule, the Capitol Education Center required separate bid packages for demolition and interior construction. Lord, Aeck & Sargent also provided ADA compliance, technology planning, design, procurement and implementation services.
