New Student Housing Precinct

Millersville, PA

Lord Aeck Sargent has been commissioned to design the first phases of a five-year multi-phase project to replace over 2,000 beds of aging student housing stock for Millersville University.

Arranged around the existing South Quad, the new housing is situated to preserve the historic lawn while enhancing its use. A single-story living-learning connector encloses seminar rooms, computer labs, multi-purpose rooms, a residence life office and support space around the periphery of the lawn. Breezeways connect the lawn to private courtyards enclosed by the residence halls. Taking advantage of the topography of the site, building common areas such as kitchens, recreation rooms and laundries are located below the living-learning spaces overlooking the courtyards.

The first phase of housing comprises more than 700 beds in a variety of unit types with generous common areas for first-year housing. Common spaces include study rooms, open lounges, laundry rooms, community kitchens, recreation rooms and a large, multi-purpose room for 125 people.
