State Offices South
Old Tift College Rehabilitation
Forsyth, GA
Lord Aeck Sargent was selected to provide space programming, master planning and full architectural services for the historic former Tift College Campus rehabilitation into a new headquarters and training facility for Georgia’s State Offices South.
Programming and master planning services were performed for site utilization, site infrastructure and rehabilitation of existing buildings, with recommendations made regarding buildings of historical significance. Included among the various projects is a new central plant, located just behind the buildings on the historic “Front Circle” (this area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places). The new plant will serve 13 of the buildings on the Tift campus.
Following the master planning effort, LAS was retained to implement Phases I-III of the plan. Phase I concentrated on buildings used by the Training Academy, including the new Central Energy Plant, a dining hall and three dormitories which will house the officer cadets during their training classes. Phase II includes a library, offices and classroom space for the Training Academy as well as an auditorium which will be utilized as both a classroom and for events such as the graduation ceremonies. Phase III is comprised of all of the office space for the headquarters operations which will relocate to the Tift Campus from sites throughout the Metro Atlanta area. This new office space is primarily distributed throughout 4 of the largest existing buildings on campus – including two historically significant buildings located on the Front Circle.
