Baylor College of Medicine
Margaret M. Alkek Building for Biomedical Research
Houston, TX
The eight-story Margaret M. Alkek tower, with five stories of biomedical research laboratories, houses research for major interdisciplinary programs in cardiovascular sciences, cancer, pharmacogenomics, genomics, and proteomics.
Design features such as open lab plans and extensive use of interior glass greatly enhance flexibility and collaboration. Providing computational and dry analytical areas into each research module has become a key ingredient of the truly interdisciplinary research facility. At the new Baylor College of Medicine Research Tower, this space was created immediately adjacent to the wet laboratory modules, separated by a glass partition, to allow researchers a high quality work environment for their computational activities yet with easy access to their laboratories.
