Rieveschl Hall Renovations

Rieveschl Hall is an eight story building built in 1968. Lord Aeck Sargent worked with the University on two phases of ongoing renovations to Rieveschl Hall.

Phase 4  included renovations to the sixth and seventh floors for the Department of Biology. During the programming phase it was essential to clearly define the current and future teaching and research needs, to plan for the flexibility required over time, and to better determine the scope of the renovation within the given budget.

The scope of work included the renovation of 42,000 sf, plus additional mechanical support. Spaces included teaching laboratories, research laboratories, offices, conference rooms, and informal meeting areas.

The teaching labs were moved into smaller class sizes of 24 with more flexible systems to allow for group work and hands-on learning. The research labs were designed as larger adaptive spaces with support labs to attract new researchers, allow for research changes and encourage collaboration.

The renovation required replacement and upgrades to the entire infrastructure serving the two floors. Work included a new VAV HVAC system to replace the existing constant-volume dual-duct system, new plumbing and electrical distribution, asbestos fire proofing removal, and a new fire protection system.

Phase 5 included the renovation of 52,000 sf for chemistry and biology research laboratories, offices, conference rooms and informal meeting areas.
